A pre-dawn shot of the Huntington Beach pier. I have a black and white version of this shot, too, and I’m curious which is preferred.

Like the composition of this shot. Man, the water looks like ice! Good exposure choice.

Prefer this one to the B&W version. As Dan says, it looks like ice, but incredibly, there’s also a wave visible. I wouldn’t have thought that would have come out in a 2.5sec shot

I usually prefer B&W, but I think this works better just because of the color reflection in the waves. Just a beautiful shot.

Is this photo available for a royalty fee for use on a website and small brochure? If so what rights and how much?
Thank you

It was a tough call, but I think I prefer this one over the black and white version. The color gradient in the sky, the rosy light reflected on the water…I think the color just adds a life to the photo that the black and white lacks. And the black and white version has this sort of sadness around it. I can’t really explain it. But if sadness is what you were going for, the B&W definitely gets the job done.

Thanks, Zoë. I’m with you, I prefer the color version myself if only for the reflections in the water.
